ABILENE, Texas –
Joel Abrego found the back of the net in the 86th minute to provide the equalizer as the Concordia Texas men's soccer team ended in a 1-1 draw with McMurry on Saturday.
The Tornados and War Hawks were scoreless halfway through the first half when a lightning delay would send both teams to the locker room. After nearly an hour delay, the teams returned to the pitch and resumed play. Despite five shots from both teams, the score remained 0-0 at the half.
In the second half, the War Hawks struck first, scoring a goal in the 75th minute to go up 1-0. Abrego and CTX would respond in the 86th minute though, as he shot it past the goalie for his third goal of the year. Neither team would score at the end of regulation and headed to overtime.
In the 94th minute, the game was called as lightning has struck in the area once again and the game was recorded official after 70 minutes of game play, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
The Tornados finished the night with 10 shots, six of them coming on goal, while goalkeeper
Rob Oakley tallied a pair of saves.
The regular season has concluded for the CTX, who currently sit third in the American Southwest Conference standings. The Tornados will have to await their faith of postseason play as the rest of the conference games will have to wrap up before seeding is determined for the conference tournament.
