ABILENE, Texas – In the final regular season conference match, the Concordia Texas volleyball team was unable to rally back, falling 3-1 to McMurry on Tuesday.
Marissa Stinson and
Marjani Myles reached double figures in kills with 14 and 12 apiece.
Lianne VanDyke had a team-high 29 assists, while
Sydney Dudney led with 20 digs.
The Tornados grabbed the first set in a thrilling back-and-forth battle. Trailing 6-0 to start the set, CTX would climb making it a three-point game at 18-15. Facing set point, Tornados continued to fight, going on to win the set 29-27 after a
Kelly Farina kill and a War Hawks error.
In the next two sets, CTX struggled at the net, tallying single-digit kills in each, dropping both sets 14-25, 16-25 respectively.
Seeking to force a decisive fifth set, the Tornados would take a 10-7 lead in the fourth after a Myles' kill. But CTX was unable to close the set as McMurry would win seven of the final eight points to take it 25-23 and the match.
Conference play is over for the Tornados as they finish with 10 wins in the American Southwest Conference, their most since 2007. They will head to the ASC tournament for the first time since 2015 as the two seed out of the West Division.
Up next, CTX will head to San Antonio, Texas, to play in the Trinity Texas Invitational, where they will face Schreiner on Friday at 6 p.m.
