Tornados come-from-behind to defeat Sul Ross State 3-2

AUSTIN, Texas – Kayla Carlove's goal in the 67th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Concordia Texas women's soccer rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Sul Ross State 3-2 on Saturday in their final regular season game of the year.

The Tornados would total 11 shots in the first half, but it was the Lobos who led at the break, as they scored two goals in the first 39 minutes of the match.

In the second half though, CTX woke up, scoring three goals in a span of less than five minutes.

Cayla Gonzalez cut the deficit in half for the Tornados when she scored her 10th goal of the year in the 62nd minute to make it 2-1. The goal moved Gonzalez into a tie for third for most goals in a single season.

In the 66th minute, Pamalea Lasprilla would even it at 2-all as she crossed two defenders before firing it past the goalie for her seventh goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, Carlove would also score her seventh goal of the year as she received the pass from Lasprilla and shot it to the right of SRSU's goalie to give CTX the lead. The Tornados would hold off the Lobos in the final minutes of the match to win 3-2.

With the win, CTX clinched the seventh seed and advance to the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the eighth straight year.

Before the match, the Tornados honored Saray Mondragon-Olivarez and Jordan Davis, who were the 2017 seniors for CTX playing in their final home match of the year.

Next up, the Tornados will travel to Belton, Texas for the quarterfinals of the ASC Tournament to face two-seeded Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m.
