AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team used three second half goals to defeat the 25th-ranked UT Dallas Comets 4-1 Friday at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
Isaiah Coombs,
Joel Abrego and
Nash Cole all scored goals for CTX as the Tornados also took advantage of an own goal by UT Dallas to move to 7-2-1, 4-2-1 on the season.
Concordia struck first in the 14th minute when Coombs, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, netted his first goal of the season.
The score would remain 1-0 until Abrego, a freshman out of Houston, scored the first goal of his career to put CTX on top 2-0 off a double assist from
Bryan Luna and Cole.
Cole, a junior from Sugar Land, Texas, then added a goal of his own in the 77th minute when he crossed all the way across the box and beat the keeper.
The Comets added their lone goal off a penalty kick in the 83rd minute, but the Tornados pushed the lead back to three in the 87th minute when UT Dallas scored an own goal.
Rob Oakley (7-2-1) picked up the win in goal for CTX and has now allowed just nine goals in 10 games this season.
The Tornados continue conference play Saturday with a match against Howard Payne beginning at 7:30 p.m.
