AUSTIN, Texas –
Nash Cole scored his fifth goal of the season but the Concordia Texas men's soccer team was unable to come from behind, falling 2-1 to Howard Payne on Saturday.
The Tornados (7-3-1, 4-3-1 ASC) would fall behind early as the Yellow Jackets (5-4, 3-4 ASC) got on the board with a goal in the 10th minute. CTX would respond though as
Nash Cole headed in a goal in the 31st minute after
Ronny Garza found him in the box off a free kick.
It is the third straight game Cole has scored and he now has five on the season. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the half and headed to the break tied at 1-1.
In the second half, the Tornados would tally 11 shots but were unable to find the back of the net. HPU would retake the lead in the 60th minute, scoring a goal on a cross from outside the box and making it 2-1. In the final minutes, CTX would try and mount a rally but came up short, falling to the Yellow Jackets at the final whistle.
Up next, the Tornados will host Mary Hardin-Baylor in their home finale on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. from the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas. Before the game, CTX will honor its seniors, who will be playing in their last home game of their careers.
