Tornados drop heartbreaker to UT Dallas

AUSTIN, Texas – After ninety minutes of play, the Concordia Texas women's soccer team headed to overtime, but would ultimately fall to UT Dallas 2-1 on Friday.

The Tornados would take the lead early as Pamela Lasprilla would find the back of the net on a deflection off the post in the 15th minute. It was her fifth goal of the season and she becomes the fourth CTX player this season with at least five goals.

The Comets did not take long to respond though as they would even it up at 1-1 with a goal in the 21st minute. UTD would tally 11 shots in the first half alone but the Tornados' defense fended them off as the game stayed tied at the halfway point.

In the second half, neither team was able to retake the lead despite a combined 16 shots on goal between the two teams. Tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, the teams headed to overtime. In the first overtime period, the Comets would score the winning goal in the 98th minute to defeat the Tornados. Goalkeeper Shelby Franco would finish the game with a season-high eight saves.

Up next, CTX will have a quick turnaround when they will host Howard Payne on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
