KERRVILLE, Texas – Behind
Jaela Dejean's 25 point, eight rebound performance, the Concordia Texas women's basketball team won their second straight game over Schreiner with a 66-56 victory on Saturday.
The Tornados faced the Mountaineers in their second straight contest after defeating them inside Concordia Fieldhouse on Wednesday.
Dejean scored over half her points from the charity-stripe, finishing the game 14-17 from the line, while also attacking the boards, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
Concordia Texas trailed early on in the game, down by a point after a
Desiray Davis' three-pointer to end the first quarter.
The Tornados would take their first lead of the game after a Davis layup to open the second quarter and would never look back outscoring Schreiner 23-9 in the period and would lead 39-26 at the break.
The run was sparked in part by
Mercedes Ellison, who tied her career-high in steals with six on the night, including four during CTX's run. She also poured in 11 points, nine of them coming in the first half.
The Mountaineers mounted a comeback in the second half, cutting the lead to four at one point, but the Tornados held them off as they went on to win it 66-56.
Up next, CTX will return to Concordia Fieldhouse, where they will take on Southwestern on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
