MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team began American Southwest Conference play facing East Texas Baptist on Thursday, falling to the Tigers 68-49 inside Ornelas Gym.
The Tornados were led by
Jaela Dejean, who had a team-high 14 points and 7 rebounds. The team overall struggled from the field though, shooting 29 percent and was 4-21 from behind the arc.
Trailing by 10 to begin the second-quarter, the Tornados would find their groove, outscoring ETBU 13-10 in the period.
Kaycie Dunkerley knocked down a pair of threes followed by a
Raven Cato layup to cut the deficit to four. Concordia Texas would head to the locker room trailing 26-19 at the half.
In the second half, after trailing by 18 points at one point in the third quarter, the Tornados began their rally. They would close out the period with a 16-6 run to chip the deficit to 45-39 heading into the final quarter.
The Tigers would open the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run though and never looked back as they went on to win 68-49.
