Tornados come up short in extra innings

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Concordia Baseball playing game two of the weekend's round-robin, fell in extra innings 2-1 to University of Dallas on Saturday night.

Jake Valadez got the start for the Tornados, going six innings giving up only two hits and no runs, while striking out two batters.

It was 0-0 until the sixth inning, when Colton Poindexter sent one over the left-field fence to give CTX a one run lead. Poindexter went 2-3 from the plate for the game. In the next inning, CTX would push across another run on Bret Lieferman's home run to left-center. It is his second home run of the season and made the game 2-0.

The Crusaders responded though with two runs in the bottom half on the inning as Ryan Capel came in relief of Valadez and was tagged with the two runs on a couple of  hits and walks. Trey Toney was able to get the final out of the inning to end the threat and leave it at 2-2.

In the top of the ninth, the Tornados had a chance to get the go-ahead run after a one out single by Michael Evan but he was thrown out later in the inning at third by the right fielder.

Kylen Harrell came in and pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, but UD was able to work a couple of walks in the bottom of the tenth and a one out hit brought home the winning run, as the Crusaders won 3-2.

Next up, CTX prepares for its final game of the weekend on Sunday against Hendrix College at 10 a.m.
