AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Softball team scored 17 total runs against Sul Ross State, taking the first two games of the series on Friday night.
In game one, the Tornados scored eight runs on eight hits including a five-run second inning.
Haley Dennett went 2-4 driving in two runs and scoring once, while
Kayla Patton had two hits and scored twice.
Shelby Burrus started her third game of the year going 4.2 innings, giving up five runs on six hits while striking out two. Laura Camacho came in the fifth inning to relieve Burrus,
closing out the game giving up no runs, while striking out one.
The first five CTX runners would reach base in the second inning, including RBI singles by
Kayla Patton and Alyssa Arroyo, as the Tornados would push across five runs in the inning to take a 5-0 lead. After quick work by Burrus in the third and fourth innings, CTX would lead off the bottom half of inning with a Patton single, one out later,
Emma Martino and Hailey Dennett followed up with singles scoring Patton. The Tornados would score two more runs in the inning to make it an 8-0.
The Lobos would have a five-run inning in the fifth inning to make it 8-5. Burrus, would shut down SRSU in the final two innings and secure game 1 for the Tornados 8-5 and Burrus' third win on the season.
In game two,
Kati Turner took the mound for CTX.
The Tornados would score in every inning on their way to a 9-1 victory. Dennett had another two hit game driving in a pair of runs and scoring a run herself.
Brittani Whitten,
Payton Walker and
Kayla Patton had two hits a piece scoring four runs total.
Turner would go five innings, giving up three hits and one run while striking out three to earn her second win of the season.
The Tornados have won four straight games and will go for the sweep on Saturday at noon.
