Tornados complete sweep of Sul Ross State

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Softball team scored six runs in the first two innings on their way to a 9-0 win and a sweep of Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon.

Kayla Patton and Summer Harper each had two hits. Patton would score twice, while Harper drove in two runs. Haley Dennett, in the leadoff, reached base twice on errors and would score twice.

Lauren Camacho received the ball for her first start on the season, pitching five innings while giving up three hits and walking none.

The Tornados (6-2, 4-2 ASC) would give Camacho early run support as the first two batters reached base in the first inning. A double steal by Dennett and Angelica Arroyo would bring home the first run of the game. Arroyo would come home later in the inning on a passed ball to make it 2-0.

CTX would start the second inning with a single from Kennedy Coffin, one out later, Emma Martino would reach base on a single to short. Both would come home in the next at bat as Dennett would wound up at third after two Lobos (2-7, 1-5 ASC) errors and pushed the score to 4-0. The Tornados would score two more runs in the inning including an RBI double by Harper into right-center field.

Camacho did not allow a runner to reach until the third inning when SRSU threated with runners at second and third with two outs, but Camacho was able to get the ground out to end the inning. In the fifth inning, already up 7-0, CTX had runners on second and third with Olivia Kaase at the plate. Kaase would drive a single out of the reach of the infield to drive in both runs and end the game at 9-0 on the run rule.

The Tornados have now won five straight and have scored six or more runs in three games on the season. Next up, CTX will travel to Georgetown, Texas for a doubleheader against Southwestern on Feb. 21, with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
