AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Softball team played Trinity in a doubleheader on Wednesday night, splitting the pair of games.
In the first game, the Tornados struggled from the plate all night as they did not have their first hit till the third inning. The Tigers, meanwhile, would push across three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Haley Dennett pitched a complete for CTX, giving up three runs on seven hits while walking none.
The Tornados headed into the final half of the inning trailing 3-0. After a quick first out, CTX would follow with four straight hits.
Katie Daniel hit a double, followed by an RBI triple by
Emily Gibbons off the wall in left. Gibbons would come home on
Katie Daniel's double into left to make it 3-2.
A single by
Emma Martino led to runners at first and second. But the next two Tornados were unable to bring the tying run home as Dennett popped up and
Alexia Rowe struck out swinging as CTX fell 3-2.
In game two, the Tornados struggles from the plate continued as they only attained two hits through the first four innings. TU, meanwhile, struck first against
Kati Turner as they scored three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
Shelby Burrus would relieve Turner in the inning to end the threat.
In the fifth, CTX would bat around, pushing across six runs to take a 6-3 lead. Daniel reached base with a one-out single. Martino would follow one out later with a walk.
Brittani Whitten would load the bases on an infield single for Dennett.
Dennett would send a single into center to drive in two runs. Harper would walk to load the bases once again.
Kayla Patton would clear the bases with a three-run double to left to give the Tornados a 5-3 lead.
Payton Walker would bring home Patton with a double to right-center to make it 6-3.
Burrus would give up a two-run home run in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-5. But she was not fazed in the seventh even after a leadoff single. Burrus would get the following batter to ground out and get the putout at third as the Tigers' lead runner tried to take third on the play. Burrus would close out the game with a ground out as CTX won the second game 6-5.
Up next, CTX will host Belhaven in a three-game series that begins on Friday at 6 p.m.
