LONGVIEW, Texas – The Concordia Softball team began a three-game series with a doubleheader against LeTournaeu, falling in both games on Friday night.
In game one, the Tornados would commit seven errors in the game as they would fall to the Yellow Jackets 10-2 after five innings due to the run rule.
CTX struck first in the second inning, scoring two runs without a hit.
Olivia Kaase would reach on a one-out error, followed by walks by
Kennedy Coffin and
Angelica Arroyo. Kaase and Coffin would score during the next at bat as another LETU error made it 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets would get a run back in the bottom half of the second to make it 2-1. LETU would take the lead in the third as they batted around and scored nine runs in the second inning on five Tornados' errors.
Only two of the Yellow Jackets' runs were earned as
Shelby Burrus took her first loss of the season.
Lauren Camacho would come in relief of her in the third and pitch the rest of the game, allowing only two runs on two hits. Coffin would get the lone hit for CTX in the fourth, but the Tornados were unable to rally from the deficit.
In game two, CTX was able to tally five hits, but was unable push across a run losing 4-0.
Kati Turner got the start for the Tornados, giving up only five hits but allowed four runs, all unearned.
CTX led off the game with back to back hits by Martino and
Alexia Rowe, but were unable to bring a run home as the next three batters were retired.
LETU scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning after a Tornados error to lead off the game and led 3-0.
CTX would move a runner to third base in the third inning, but back to back ground outs ended the inning.
The Yellow Jackets would add a run in the fifth to make 4-0. In the seventh, the Tornados would have runners on first and second with one out, but a caught stealing and a
strikeout ended the game.
CTX will play the series finale against LETU on Saturday at noon.
