Tornados suffer setback against Indiana Tech

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Softball team, in a non-conference matchup against Indiana Tech, fell 10-8 on Thursday afternoon in a game that featured 21 combined hits.

Olivia Kaase had four hits to lead the Tornados (13-9, 6-6 ASC) with a pair of runs scored. Katie Daniel entered the game as a pinch-hitter and tallied two hits, scoring twice and driving in one run.

CTX turned to Haley Dennett on the mound, pitching into the second inning before being relieved by Lauren Camacho.

The Warriors (3-13-1) would get on the board first in the second inning, scoring four runs on four hits as they batted around and led 4-0.

The Tornados would chip away at the deficit scoring a run in the third on a throwing error by the catcher that brought home Morgan Loredo. Indiana Tech would push across a run in the top half of the fourth to make it 5-1, before a Loredo two-run single in the fourth cut the lead to 5-3.

CTX would take their first lead of the game in the fifth inning, as they batted around to score five runs. Alexia Rowe, Daniel and Loredo each had an RBI in the inning.

But the Warriors responded in the next half inning with a five-run inning of their own off of Shelby Burrus, who came in relief of Camacho in the fourth. A bases-clearing double to left center gave Indiana Tech the lead for good at 10-8.

Kaase led off the seventh with a single, but the Tornados were unable to take advantage as the next three batters were retired in order to end the game.

CTX will next host Mary Hardin-Baylor in a three-game series beginning on Friday with a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
