ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Men's team headed into the final match of the day in tie with Hardin-Simmons, but came up short, losing 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
In the doubles matches, the Tornados took one of the three matches.
Holt Fields and
Leo Marchesi, at line one, battled back and forth with the Cowboys, but ultimately fell 8-6. At line two,
Clayton Hernandez and
Zach Haynie earned CTX their first win of the day after forcing a tiebreaker at 8-8, winning it 7-2.
Victor Escalon and
Adrian Montes were unable to grab a lead, losing at line three.
In the singles competition, the Tornados would take three of the first four matches to lead 4-3 overall. Hernandez, Haynie and Montes earned wins at line two, three and four respectfully, including a three-set thriller. Escalon played the final match of the day, as the teams were tied at 4-4, but was unable to come from behind as HSU won the match in straight sets to take the team match.
CTX will have a quick turnaround as they will take on McMurry in Abilene, Texas on Sunday at 9 a.m.
