Tornados shut down 6th ranked East Texas Baptist

MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Softball team held sixth-ranked East Texas Baptist to two runs on their way to a 3-2 victory in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

Lauren Camacho earned her second win on the season as she pitched into the fifth when Shelby Burrus came in for relief, pitching two plus inning allowing only one hit to earn her first save of the year. Three Tornados had at least two hits, led by Katie Daniel's three hits and two RBIs.

The game was tied at 1-1 after the first frame as Haley Dennett drove in Emma Martino for the first run of the game, while the Tigers responded with a RBI single by Lacey Lindsay in the bottom half of the inning.

CTX would retake the lead in the fifth as Dennett and Kayla Patton led off the inning with back-to-back singles. One batter later, Daniel drove a double into left center, scoring two runs.

In the bottom half of the inning, ETBU would get a run back after a leadoff double and an RBI single from Katy Hill.

Burrus would retired the side in the fifth, worked a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth and only allowed a runner to reach second in the seventh, but struck out the final batter to end the game and give the Tornados the win.

CTX will return to Tornado Softball Field to host second-ranked UT Tyler beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, March 31, at 5 p.m.
