Tornados drop doubleheader against second-ranked UT Tyler

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Softball team faced second-ranked UT Tyler in a doubleheader on Friday, dropping both games.

In game one, the Tornados tallied four hits, including a pair of doubles by Brittani Whitten. Shelby Burrus pitched a complete game, giving up eight runs on 13 hits.

The Patriots scored a run in the first three innings, to take a 3-0 lead. Whitten would get the first hit for CTX with a two-out in the second, but was stranded after a pop out.

UTT added a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth to extend their lead to 7-0. The Tornados began the sixth with an Emma Martino single and put runners in scoring position after Olivia
Kaase reach second on an error. CTX was unable to bring them home though as the next three batters were retired.

The Patriots added a run in the eighth, going on to win 8-0 in the first game.

In game two, the Kaase had the only hit for the Tornados as they dropped the second game 8-0 on run rule.

Kati Turner started on the mound, but struggled in the third, ending her night after giving up five runs, two earned on four hits. Lauren Camacho came on in relief, pitching three-plus innings allowing only three runs on three hits.

CTX threatened in the fourth after Kaase's single and a Whitten walk with two outs, but Haley Dennett grounded out to end the game.

The Patriots added a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 8-0. The Tornados were retired in order in the bottom half of the inning to end the game.

CTX returns to the field on Saturday for the series finale at 10 a.m. as the game was moved up due to the forecasted rain in the area.
