BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Concordia Baseball used a six-run second inning on the way to a 14-8 win over Howard Payne on Friday afternoon.
After scoring a pair of runs in the first, the Tornados opened the game up with a six-run second inning.
Caleb Maddox led off the inning with a double, followed by a
Casen Novak home run to make it 4-0.
Wilkes Swaim singled to continue the inning. One out later, four straight hits made it 8-0 as
Michael Evan and
Cameron Rape both had RBI doubles.
Kylen Harrell started the game for CTX, but was unable to get out of the second inning as the Yellow Jackets scored three runs to make it 8-3.
Matthew Brown came on in relief, pitching four innings, giving up two runs on five hits.
The Tornados would score a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run double by
Alex Britz. In their final at bat, CTX added three insurance runs on RBI doubles by
Colton Poindexter and
Jake Valadez and a RBI single by Leiferman.
Justin Traxler came on to pitch in the sixth and closed out the game, pitching four innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
The Tornados will close out the series against Howard Payne on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
