AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Softball used a four-run fourth inning to break the tie on their way to a 9-4 win over Belhaven to complete the weekend sweep on Saturday afternoon.
Shelby Burrus came in relief of starting pitcher
Haley Dennett, closing out the game with four innings and giving up only one run to garner her ninth win of the year and remain perfect on the season.
Kayla Patton had three hits in the game and drove in four, while scoring twice.
Katie Daniel also had three hits to go along with three RBIs on the day.
After the Blazers (4-11) scored an unearned run in the first on a throwing error to third, the Tornados (13-5, 6-3 ASC) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Patton RBI double and a Daniel RBI single to right to make it 2-1 after one inning.
BU would retake the lead in the second with two sac flies to right and make it 3-2. Daniel would give CTX back the lead in the third with a two-run double scoring
Emma Martino and Dennett. The Blazers would tie it up in the top of the fourth on another throwing error.
The Tornados would take the lead for good in the bottom half of the fourth as they pushed across four runs in the inning. Patton had a two-run single, followed by an RBI single by Dennett and
Ryan Gibson would bring home the final run of the inning on a single to left.
The lead was more than enough for Burrus, who would only give up four hits in her four innings of work. Heading into the bottom half of the sixth, the umpires called the game as rain continued to pour, giving CTX the 9-4 victory and fourth straight win.
Next up, the Tornados will travel to Longview, Texas for a three-game series with LeTourneau beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, March 10 at 5 p.m.
