Tornados come up short to East Texas Baptist

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Baseball team's rally came up short, dropping the doubleheader games to East Texas Baptist on Friday afternoon.

In game one, a seven-inning game, the Tornados were unable to push across a run as the Tigers had back-to-back to four-run innings and went on to win 9-0.

Clarence Guidry, in the leadoff spot, had two of CTX's four hits in the game. ETBU would lead 1-0 heading into the fifth, but would score four runs in both the fifth and six innings to make it 9-0 and take the first game of the day.

In game two, the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the end of three frames.

The Tornados responded in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits. Wilkes Swaim's two-run double made it 3-2 after Colton Poindexter and Michael Evan led off the inning with singles. Swaim came home on the next batter as Tyler Johnson's single up the middle tied it up.

In the top half of the fifth, ETBU would bat around, scoring five runs and retook the lead 8-3. They would add a run the following inning to make it 9-3 after six innings.

CTX was not able to score again, just having two hits after the fourth inning, as the Tigers went on to win game two 9-3.

Up next, the Tornados will host defending national champion Trinity University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
