AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Men's Tennis team fell 8-1 to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday, but clinched an American Southwest Conference tournament bid in the process.
In doubles, the Tornados were unable to come away with a win, as the Cru took victories at line one through three. At line three, the duo of
Adrian Montes and
Micah Austin battled and were broken only once, but dropped the match 9-7.
Holt Fields and
Leo Marchesi came up short at line one, losing 8-6, while
Clayton Hernandez and
Zach Haynie lost at line two, 8-3.
In the singles matches, CTX would take its first win at line three, as Hernandez won a quick first set allowing only one game and won the tiebreaker 7-5 in the second for the line three victory. Marchesi, dropped the first set at line two, but forced a tiebreaker in the second set, coming up just short losing it 7-4. The rest of the matches, the Tornados would fall in straight sets.
Up next, CTX awaits the end of the regular season to determine the seeding for the ASC tournament. The tournament begins on May 4 and will be hosted by the East Division's one seed.
