Tornados clinch ASC berth with sweep of the Ozarks

AUSTIN, TexasShelby Burrus pitched her second straight complete-game shutout, defeating University of the Ozarks 5-0, as Concordia Softball clinched a berth to the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the first time since 2014 on Saturday.

Burrus, in her final home appearance at Tornado Softball Field, pitched seven strong innings, allowing no runs and only five hits, while striking out five Eagles. Emma Martino and Angelica Arroyo led the Tornados at the plate as each had a pair of hits.

CTX scored in four of the first five innings as five different players had a run batted in on the day. Burrus, meanwhile, retired eight straight batters at one point and did not allow a runner to reach third base till the seventh.

UO threatened in their final at-bat after a Tornados error and a double moved runners to second and third. Burrus followed up with three straight outs, including two ground outs back to the circle to end the game and give CTX the 5-0 win.

The Tornados celebrated its three seniors,  Burrus, Lauren Camacho and Kennedy Coffin, with a pregame ceremony honoring their contributions to the Concordia Softball program.

CTX will now travel to host UT Tyler for the ASC Conference Tournament, where they will play as the sixth seed. The tournament is double-elimination and they will face three-seed UT Dallas on April 27 at 10 a.m.
