DALLAS – The Concordia Softball team faced 21st-ranked UT Dallas, scoring five runs in the third inning, but it was not enough dropping the game 14-5 on Friday.
The Comets grabbed an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, but the Tornados would respond in the third as they batted around.
Payton Walker led off the inning with a single. One out later, a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt would move runners to first and second. After a strikeout,
Olivia Kaase walked to load the bases for
Haley Dennett. Dennett would walk to tie it up at 1-1.
Summer Harper gave the Tornados their first lead of the game with a two-run double, followed by a two-run single by
Kayla Patton to make it 5-1 lead.
UTD would push across a run in the bottom half of the third to draw closer at 5-2. CTX was unable to get anything going in the fourth as the Comets took back the lead with a seven-run fourth to make it 9-5. It ended
Shelby Burrus' day as she started the game for the Tornados.
The game would end by run-rule in the fifth as UTD scored five runs and took the game 14-5.
CTX returns to UTD Softball Field on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. to close out the series.
