Tornados drop doubleheader to UT Dallas

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 DALLAS – The Concordia Softball team faced 21st-ranked UT Dallas in a doubleheader on Saturday, dropping both games 9-1.

In game one, the Tornados and Comets were knotted up 1-1 after three innings. A one-out walk by Alexia Rowe in the third got things started for CTX. She moved to second on an Emma Martino sacrifice bunt and came home on an RBI single by Olivia Kaase to tie the game up.

The Tornados would threaten in the fourth with runners at first and second, but a Payton Walker fielder's choice would end the inning. UTD retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on four hits and led 5-1. Shelby Burrus' day was done after pitching four innings and was relieved by Haley Dennett.

The Comets would end the game by run rule in the sixth, scoring four more runs to take the first game 9-1.

In game two, UTD led 1-0 after the first inning, but CTX responded in the second with a run of their own to tie it up at 1-1.

Shelby Harper led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a Dennet sac bunt. Walker would move Harper to third on a single to right and she came home on Kennedy Coffin' sac fly.

The Comets batted around in the third, scoring five runs and ending Kati Turner's start as they led 6-1. UTD would score in the next two innings to end the game by run rule as they
took game two 9-1.

The Tornados will return home for a three-game series with Howard Payne beginning on April 13 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
