TYLER, Texas – The Concordia Baseball team came up short in their bid to reach the College World Series, falling to Cal Lutheran 9-7 in the West Regional championship game on Sunday.
Michael Evan was a perfect 4-4 on the day with three runs batted in, while
Bret Leiferman had two hits and scored twice as the Tornados looked to rally from a five-run deficit heading into the seventh.
Trailing 9-4,
Wilkes Swaim and
Casen Novak reached base to begin the inning for CTX. Swaim would score on a Kingsmen error and Leiferman followed with a triple to right to make it 9-6. Evan would make it 9-7 on a sac fly.
Ryan Capel would throw two scoreless innings to keep it 9-7 as the Tornados head to the ninth for their final at-bat.
After quick two outs, CTX would load the bases on a Leiferman walk, Evan single and
Jake Valadez hit by pitch.
Tyler Johnson, pinch-hitting, grounded out to first to end the game and the season for the Tornados.
CTX finishes the season as the West Regional runner-up, where they won 30 games for the first time since the 2015 season.
