Tornados fall to UT Tyler in a heartbreaker

TYLER, Texas – The Concordia Baseball team played UT Tyler for the Blue Bracket championship, but came up short, losing two heart breaking games on Sunday.

In game one, the Tornados would score six runs on 11 hits, led by Bret Leiferman and Caleb Maddox, who had two hits apiece.

Heading into the ninth, the score was knotted up at 5-5. The Patriots would grab the lead, pushing across a run to take the lead at 6-5. In the bottom half of the inning, Leiferman tripled into right-center with one out. He would score on Michael Evan's single into left to tie it up at 6-6.

After a scoreless 10th inning, the Patriots would score five runs in the 11th and retake the lead at 11-6. The Tornados were unable to score in the next half inning, losing 11-6, forcing a winner-take-all championship game.

In game two, both teams combined for 25 runs and used 14 total pitchers as the lead changed back and forth.

After six innings, CTX held a 10-5 lead, as three Tornados had three hits in the game. Casen Novak scored three times, Race Mellman drove in five and scored four runs and Evan had four RBIs in the game.

The Patriots grabbed the lead in the seventh, scoring six runs in the inning, including a three-run home run that made it 11-10.

CTX responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on Mellman's two-run single as the Tornados retook the lead at 12-11 going into the eighth.
