Aguirre's two goals lead the Tornados over Huston-Tillotson

AUSTIN, Texas – Omar Aguirre's header into the net in the 85th minute sealed the win as the Concordia Texas Men's Soccer team defeated Huston-Tillotson 3-1 in their season opener on Friday.

It was one of Aguirre's two goals on the night as the Tornados (1-0-0) were aggressive throughout the night totaling 18 shots, including 10 on goal. Alejandro Labastida finished the game with three points after an assist and a second half goal. The win was the first career win for head coach Nick Mims.

CTX got on the board first in the 13th minute after Labastida's shot deflected off a Rams (0-1-0) player, where Aguirre took it and put it past the goalie to take a 1-0 lead. HT would respond with a goal in the 41st minute to knot it up at 1-1 at the half.

In the second half, the Tornados would retake the lead on Bryan Luna's assist to Labastida, who put it in the back left post and made it 2-1 in favor of CTX.

Both teams battled physically throughout the night as five yellow cards and a red card were handed out in the second half alone.

Up 2-1, a Rams foul led to a Ronny Garza free kick from just outside the box. Garza would find Aguirre in the middle of the box, as he put it into the back of the net to secure the Tornados' first win of the season.

CTX will be off for a week before hosting Schreiner on Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
