MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Texas volleyball team began their season by dropping a five set heartbreaker to Concordia Chicago in the Concordia Invitational Friday night at R. John Buck Fieldhouse.
CTX (0-1) took the first and third sets of the match, but were unable to capitalize on a 2-1 lead as they fell in the fifth set 15-12.
Three Tornados racked up double digit kills in the match with
Carly Custer leading the way with 12.
Kelly Farina and
Brooke Camet had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
CTX recorded a .205 hitting percentage in the first set while holding Concordia Chicago to just .081. The third set was even more impressive defensively for the Tornados as they held CC to a -.027 hitting percentage.
Marissa Stinson led CTX with five blocks while also registering seven kills.
In the fifth set, the Tornados led 11-10, but CC went on a 5-1 run to close out the set and win the match 21-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-16 and 15-12.
Lianne VanDyke was fantastic for CTX, as she posted 35 assists, 15 digs and two kills from the setter position.
The Tornados continue the Concordia Invitational tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m. against Concordia Michigan.
