DALLAS – The Concordia Texas women's soccer team opened the season with a 4-3 victory over the University of Dallas Friday at Crusader Field.
The Tornados fell behind 2-0 in the 13th minute, but were able to battle back thanks to three second half goals, including two goals from
Cayla Gonzalez.
Delaney Kennedy opened the scoring for Concordia with a strike from the top of the box and was assisted by
Kayla Carlove in the 39th minute to cut the UD lead in half.
After making some halftime adjustments the Tornados came out firing, scoring two goals in the first 13 minutes of the half to take a 3-2 lead. Both goals came off the foot of Gonzalez in the 52nd and 58th minutes, respectively.
UD didn't go quietly, however, as they scored a goal of their own on a CTX hand ball in the 61st minute.
The Tornados answered quickly to regain the lead when
Kaycee Moore hit a shot from 30 yards out off the second assist of the game from Carlove which proved to be the game winner.
Statistically, Concordia led the way in almost every offensive category. The Tornados held the advantage in shots (31-11), shots on goal (16-7) and corner kicks (7-2).
Shelby Franco (1-0) picked up the win for the Tornados as she played the full time in goal and made four saves.
