Tornados erupt for five goals in win over Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Cayla Gonzalez scored twice and the Concordia Texas Women's Soccer team exploded for five goals as they defeated Southwestern 5-0 on Sunday.

Gonzalez scored a goal in each half and now has four on the season as the four different Tornados (2-0-0) scored and the team totaled 22 shots, 13 of them goal for the night. Goalkeeper Shelby Franco tallied her first shutout of the year, making key saves in the final minutes of the match.

In the first half, the Tornados would get off 12 shots, four of them on goal. In the 13th minute, CTX would strike first as Pamela Lasprilla found Cayla Gonzalez in the middle of the box shooting it into the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. On the defensive side of the ball, the Tornados held the Pirates (0-2-0) to no shots in the half and took the 1-0 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, CTX would break the game open with four goals in the half alone. Cayla Gonzalez scored her second goal of the game off a rebound and struck it into the net in the 52nd minute. Five minutes later, Pamela Lasprilla went one-on-one with the keeper putting it past her to make it 3-0. Kyleigh Lugo and Saray Mondragon-Olivarez each scored their first goal of the season as the Tornados went on to defeat SU 5-0 for their second straight win.

CTX will now have a quick turnaround as they will face Schreiner in their home opener on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
