Tornados off to best start in program history

AUSTIN, Texas – Kayla Carlove notched the first hat trick since 2011 and the Concordia Texas Women's Soccer team went on to defeat Texas Lutheran 5-3 on Sunday.

The win is the fourth straight for the Tornados (4-0-0, 0-0 ASC), as they are off to their best start in program history. All five of CTX's goals came in the first half, firing off 13 shots. Kaycee Moore scored her third goal of the year, while Pamela Lasprilla found the back of the net for the second time of the year. Lasprilla and Alicia Pineda each tallied their first assists of the year as well.

It was a high-scoring affair in the first half as the Tornados jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Carlove put it past the Bulldogs' keeper twice within the first seven minutes. Two minutes later, TLU cut the lead in half with a goal, but Lasprilla would make it 3-1 with her goal in the 12th minute.

The Bulldogs would battle back though, tying it up at 3-3 in the 38th minute. Only 22 seconds later, Moore put CTX up for good with her goal and a 4-3 lead. In the final minutes of the first half, Carlove did it all on her own as she pushed the ball past the TLU goalie for her third goal of the day. It is the first hat trick for the Tornados since Sept. 24, 2011 when Axita Patel tallied one in a 5-0 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor.

During halftime, a red card was handed out to CTX and the team was left to play with 10 players in the second half. It did not matted though as goalie Shelby Franco pitched a second half shutout, gathering five saves in the half alone and had seven for the day as the Tornados went on to win 5-3.

Up next, CTX will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to face the fifth-ranked Trinity Tigers at 6 p.m. on Monday, seeking their fifth-straight win of the season.
