MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team used a hat trick from
Alejandro Labastida and stellar defense to record a 3-0 shutout victory over East Texas Baptist Thursday night at Cornish Field.
Labastida, a senior from Austin, Texas, became the first CTX men's soccer player to record a hat trick since Pep Rangel did so in 2012.
The Tornados (4-0, 1-0 ASC) opened the scoring in the 28th minute when
Jason Saco-Vertiz assisted on Labastida's first goal.
Just seven minutes later, Labastida found the back of the net again from 15 yards out to give CTX a 2-0 lead.
The hat trick was completed when Labastida lined up a penalty kick in the 71st minute and knocked it passed the keeper.
Defensively, the Tornados held ETBU to just one shot on goal and only five shots total.
Rob Oakley picked up the win in goal, making one save and recording his first shutout of the season.
CTX looks to remain unbeaten this Saturday in a conference matchup with LeTourneau in Longview, Texas, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
