JACKSON, Miss. – Knotted up at 1-1 at the end of regulation, the Concordia Texas men's soccer team headed to overtime, but were unable to push across a goal resulting in a tie with Belhaven on Thursday.
The Tornados (5-2-1, 2-1-1 ASC) would strike first in the ninth minute when
Jason Saco-Vertiz would find the back of the net unassisted for his first goal of the season. On the defensive side of the ball, CTX did not allow a single shot by the Blazers (1-4-4, 1-2-1 ASC) and headed to the half up 1-0.
In the second half, BU would tie it up at 1-all with a goal in the 68th minute. The Tornados would record two shots in the half but were not able to retake the lead at the end of 90 minutes and both teams headed to overtime.
In the overtime periods, CTX would not allow any shots once again by the Blazers, while firing six of their own. In the final minute of the game,
Alejandro Labastida would shoot for the win but the shot was blocked and time expired as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Up next, the Tornados will travel to Pineville, La., to take on Louisiana College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
