Neal leads second-half rally over Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas – Down by as many as 12 points, the Concordia Texas men's basketball team rallied to win their fourth straight game, defeating Hardin-Simmons 97-94 on Saturday.

Joe Neal led the way for the Tornados, scoring 16 of his 26 points in the second half, including nine of the team's final 11 points. Christopher Poe, in his seventh start of the year, reached double figures with 10 points and had a team-high eight rebounds, five of them coming on the offensive end.

Trailing 52-43 late in the first half, CTX used a quick 9-2 run to cut it down to two. Neal would close out the half with a pair of free throws, and the Tornados trailed 57-56 at the break. Concordia Texas utilized their bench, scoring 22 points in the first half.

In the second half, the Tornados would continue to trail the Cowboys. Neal would catch fire late though, scoring a quick five points on a layup followed by a three to cut it one with 2:29 left to play. Concordia Texas would go in front for their first lead of the day after two Neal free throws made it 92-91.

Hardin-Simmons would go back in front with two free throws, but Neal and Ephriam Price III would close out the win as each knocked down a pair of free throws and the Tornados held on for the 97-94 win.

Up next, Concordia Texas will close out its three-game road trip with a matchup against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. as they will go for their fifth win in a row.
