BELTON, Texas –
Jaela Dejean scored 20 points and went over 1,000 career points at Concordia Texas, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team dropped a 78-68 decision to Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday at Mayborn Campus Center.
Dejean, a junior from Houston, became the ninth women's player in CTX history to score over 1,000 career points, and she now trails Tabbatha Caldwell by just 39 points for eighth place in program history.
With the loss, CTX dropped to 7-10, 3-6 ASC on the year and sit in fifth place in the ASC West Standings halfway through the conference season.
The Tornados got off to a hot start as they jumped ahead 17-9 halfway through the first quarter. The hot start continued into the second quarter as CTX extended their lead to as many as 10 points when Dejean hit a layup to give the Tornados a 31-21 lead.
UMHB made a rally to close out the first half, however, as they went on a 13-0 run to take a 34-31 lead into the break.
The third quarter was a back and forth struggle as the score was 58-54 heading into the final stanza.
Trailing by 11 late in the fourth quarter, CTX went on a 10-2 run to cut the game to 69-66 with 2:00 left. The Tornados were unable to get any closer as the Cru closed the game on a 9-2 run to take home the 10 point win.
Mercedes Ellison and
Lindsay Carter both registered double doubles in the game. Ellison, a junior from Victoria, Texas, produced 12 points and 10 rebounds and Carter, a freshman out of Dodd City, Texas, added 11 points and 11 boards.
CTX will look to climb in the ASC standings as they begin a six-game homestand with a matchup against UT Dallas at 5:30 p.m.
