Berger's career-high not enough in loss to Wildcats

AUSTIN, Texas – Payton Berger set a new career-high scoring 17 points, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas women's basketball fell to Louisiana College on Saturday.

Berger, out of Azle, Texas, went 5-8 from the field and knocked down seven free throws, for the highest scoring output of her career. Jaela Dejean only had four points but made an impact in different areas of the game, securing eight rebounds, tallying six steals and dishing out five assists.

Trailing by as much as seven in the second quarter, the Tornados would go on a 10-2 run to take only their second lead of the game and led by one entering the locker room at the half. Mercedes Ellison led the way, scoring six of her eight points in the second quarter alone.

In the third, CTX would go cold from the floor, scoring only five points and headed to final quarter trailing 48-36.

Seeking to end their four-game losing streak, The Tornados would cut the deficit to 11 at one point, but the Wildcats would pull away, taking it 67-52 at the final buzzer.

Up next, CTX go on their first trip of 2018, traveling to Abilene, Texas, to face McMurry on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 5:30 p.m.
