Savannah McHam and
Cayla Gonzalez each scored and the Concordia Texas women's soccer team held on to defeat McMurry 2-1 Thursday on senior night.
Prior to the game, the Tornados celebrated its three seniors
Kaitlyn Ellis,
Victoria Herrera and
Skylar Larkin for their careers with the program.
It was a quiet first half for both teams, remaining scoreless in the first 25 minutes of the game. McHam would break the tie though with her fifth goal of the season in the 26th minute.
Pamela Lasprilla would provide the assist, finding McHam on the left wing, where she fired it across the goalie and into the right corner of the net giving CTX the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Gonzalez would double the Tornados' lead with her goal in the 63rd minute.
Kayla Carlove would pick up the assist from the top of the box, finding Gonzalez, who shot into the left side of the net to make it 2-0. For Gonzalez, it was her fourth goal of the season.
The War Hawks would rally late, scoring a goal in the 87th
minute to cut the lead in half, but the Tornados would hold on to snap their two-game losing streak with a 2-1 win.
With the win, CTX clinches a spot in the American Southwest Conference Tournament, their nine straight appearance.
Next up, the Tornados will close out it home schedule when they host No. 10 Hardin-Simmons on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the John Gupton Stadium in Cedar Park, Texas.
