AUSTIN, Texas – Seniors
CJ Linn and
Nash Cole along with freshman
Victor Gomez all scored to help the Concordia Texas men's soccer team defeat McMurry 3-0 Thursday at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
Led by senior goalkeeper
Rob Oakley, the Tornados pitched their fifth shutout of the year to stay undefeated at home and move to 8-4-1 overall and 7-2 in American Southwest Conference play.
Linn, out of Kaufmann, Texas, began the scoring for CTX in the 39th minute when he found the back of the net off a deflection for his first goal of the season.
Neither team scored again until the 69th minute when Cole put the Tornados on top 2-0. The defender out of Sugar Land, Texas, netted his third goal of the year and 11th of his career.
Four minutes later CTX struck again when Gomez, from Austin, Texas, put one past the keeper thanks to an assist from senior
Omar Aguirre.
Defensively, Oakley posted his 13th career shutout to move to 21-9-3 in goal over three years with the Tornados.
In total, the win was the 41st in the last four years for CTX, making the 2018 senior class the winningest class in program history.
The Tornados will play in their final regular season home game on Sunday when they take on Hardin-Simmons at John Gupton Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
