BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Concordia Texas volleyball team dominated from start to finish in a 3-0 sweep of Howard Payne on Friday, their 13th sweep of the season and the program's most since 1999.
The Tornados would handle the Yellow Jackets in three sets 25-16, 25-22, 25-18 for the team's fourth win in their last five matches.
Five players would finish with at least five kills in the match, led by reigning American Southwest Conference West Division Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Marissa Stinson and
Marjani Myles, who each had eight kills.
In the first set, CTX would jump out to a 9-2 lead and would not look back, closing out the set with a 10-2 run. In the second set, the Tornados would trail 13-10 early before a 13-3 run, aided by three Myles' kills, led to a 25-22 set win.
In the set three, CTX would grab a 3-2 lead and cruise to a 25-18 set win to close out the match for their 13th straight-set win of the year. It is the most sweeps in a single season for the program since 1999 when the eventual conference champion Tornados won 21 of their 23 victories in straight sets.
For the match,
Georgia Quiroz had a team-high 23 assists, while
Rylee Davis led CTX with 11 digs.
The Tornados will have a quick turnaround when they travel to Alpine, Texas to face Sul Ross State on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside the Gallego Center.
