APLINE, Texas – The Concordia Texas volleyball team continued their winning ways Saturday as they defeated Sul Ross State 3-0 at Gallego Arena.
With the win, CTX picks up their 14th sweep of the season, the most since 1999, and moves to 16-9 overall and 10-3 in American Southwest Conference play.
The 10 wins in ASC play are tied for the second-most conference wins in school history, just one short of the record set in 2000 when the Tornados finished 11-3.
Marjani Myles led the way for Concordia offensively, racking up 10 kills along with three blocks. Myles, a sophomore out of Houston, produced double-digit kills for the sixth time this season.
The Tornados were dominant at the point of attack all game, producing 12 total blocks, the second-highest total of the year.
Leading 12-9 in set number one, CTX went on a 5-0 run and used it to cruise to a 25-19 victory to open the match.
Both teams went back-and-forth in the second set, with neither team holding more than a three-point lead throughout the frame. After staving off one set point already, the Tornados trailed 27-26 late. CTX was not to be denied, however, as
Marissa Stinson had a key kill as well as a block and
Ally Combs produced a service ace to help the Tornados grab a thrilling 29-27 victory.
In set number three, CTX used another furious comeback to get the win. Down 14-11, the Tornados went on a 9-1 run to take a 20-15 lead and eventually go on to win the set 25-22.
