ABILENE, Texas –
Tristyn Massey produced a career-high 19 kills and the Concordia Texas volleyball team picked up their sixth straight win 3-1 Tuesday over McMurry at Kimbrell Arena.
The six-game winning streak is tied for the third-longest in school history and is the longest since 2000 as the Tornados are now 11-7, 6-2 in the American Southwest Conference.
Massey, junior from Amarillo, Texas also racked up 13 digs to produce her fourth double-double of the season while hitting .326 in the match.
Marissa Stinson and
Sam Mendez were also phenomenal at the point of attack for CTX, each picking up double-digit kills and at least four blocks.
Setter
Georgia Quiroz joined Massey with a double-double thanks to 48 assists and 10 digs, her eighth double-double this season.
The Tornados and War Hawks went back-and-forth in set one, with neither team leading by more than three early on. CTX rallied late, however, scoring five of the final six points to grab set one 25-18.
With set two tied at 12, the Tornados trailed used an 8-1 run to take command and cruise to a 25-19 victory. The win in set two gave CTX 17 consecutive set victories, which is the third-longest streak in program history.
McMurry controlled set number three, hitting .278 while holding Concordia to .171 to win 25-19.
Trailing by as many as eight in the fourth set, the Tornados rallied from being down 14-6 by scoring 10 of the match's final 14 points to get the comeback victory.
With the win, CTX moves into second place in the ASC West, trailing only Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Tornados will have a chance to close the gap Friday, when they take on UMHB in Belton, Texas at 6:00 p.m.
