AUSTIN, Texas – A trio of Tornados reached double figures in kills and the Concordia Texas volleyball team rallied to defeat Hardin-Simmons 3-1 on Friday, tying the program record for most conference wins in a single season.
After dropping a tough first set 25-21, the Tornados would go on a roll, winning the next three frames to take the match 21-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-13 for their fourth straight conference win.
Marissa Stinson, who entered the match ranked sixth in the nation in hitting percentage with a .395 mark, led the way with a team-high 14 kills and an attack percentage of .542, while
Tristyn Massey and
Sam Mendez each had 10 kills.
Trailing by a set, CTX would dominate the second set, pulling away from the Cowgirls with a 11-4 run to win the set and tallying 15 kills in the set alone.
The Tornados were also getting it done of the defensive side of the ball, tying a team season-high with 13 blocks, including a career-high nine total blocks by
Marjani Myles.
After edging out HSU 25-20 in the third set, CTX would blow away the Cowgirls in the final set 25-13 to win their 11th conference game of the season.
Georgia Quiroz and Massey each had a double-double for the Tornados. Quiroz finished with a team-high 40 assists along with 12 digs for her 11th double-double of the year, while Massey added 13 digs to her 10 kills for her eighth double-double of the season.
With the win, CTX moved to 17-9 (11-3 ASC), tying the program record for conference wins in a single season set during the 2000 season.
The Tornados will seek to break the record in their final match of the regular season as they celebrate senior day and host McMurry on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
