Aguirre has record-breaking day in win over Sul Ross

ALPINE, Texas – Omar Aguirre's second hat trick of the season put him into the record books as the all-time leading goal scorer in a career and in a single season in program history as the Concordia Texas men's soccer team routed Sul Ross State 4-1 on Thursday.

Aguirre enter the game one goal short of the tying the program record for goals scored in a career, held by Alejandro Lasbastida (2014-17), and the record for goals scored in a single season, held by Mohamed Diallo's 11 goals in the 2011 season.

Aguirre would get the Tornados going early with a headed goal in the 6th minute off a corner kick from Joel Abrego. The goal tied Aguirre for both program records and gave CTX a 1-0 lead.

Abrego would follow with his own goal in the 14th minute after a corner kick found Victor Gomez in the box, dishing it off to Abrego, who chipped it over the goalie for the score and doubling the Tornados' lead.

In the 33rd minute, Aguirre would make history firing his record-breaking goal into the top right corner of the net off an assist from Abrego, his second of the day, increasing CTX's advantage to 3-0.

Aguirre would cap off his historic day by scoring a goal in the 59th minute for his second hat trick of the year, becoming the first player in program history to have two hat tricks in the same season.

The Lobos would get a goal back in the 72nd minute to break up the shutout, but it was all the Tornados would allow, winning it 4-1.

With the win, CTX moves to 9-5-1 (8-3 ASC) to wrap up the regular season. It is the program's most conference wins in a single season in program history, breaking the tie with the 2016 team.

The Tornados will now await their seeding for the American Southwest Conference Tournament. Concordia Texas has clinched a top-four seed and will host an ASC Quarterfinal game on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
