ROUND ROCK, Texas – Behind
Omar Aguirre's second straight hat trick performance, the Concordia Texas men's soccer team would score four unanswered goals in a dominating 4-1 win over LeTourneau in the American Southwest Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday.
It is Aguirre's third hat trick of the season, the most by a single player in a single season in program history, and it is his second game in a row he has finished with three goals after a 4-1 win over Sul Ross State on Thursday.
Concordia Texas would fall behind early though when the Yellow Jackets found the back of the net with a goal in the 8th minute.
The Tornados would respond quickly though when Aguirre knotted it up at 1-all in the 20th minute.
Bryan Luna would send a long cross to the back post, where
Alex Bridges would head it to the front post for Aguirre to tap it in.
Aguirre would not take long to score his second goal of the night when eight minutes later
Joel Abrego would cross it into the box, where Aguirre would take the rebound off a shot deflection by
Victor Gomez and send it into the net to give the Tornados a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Aguirre would continue to put on an offensive show when he recorded his third goal of the night after a breakaway by
Edgar Guerrero, who found Aguirre streaking down the middle in the 55th minute to give CTX a 3-1 lead.
Gomez would cap off the night for the Tornados with a high-flying headed goal past the goalkeeper off a corner kick by Abrego to push the lead to 4-1 in the 60th minute.
Concordia Texas would go on to defeat the Yellow Jackets 4-1 to advance to the ASC Semifinals, their first semifinals appearance since the 2016 season.
Next up, the Tornados will head to Richardson, Texas and will face Mary Hardin-Baylor in the ASC Semifinals on Friday at 8 p.m.
