Tornados use trio of first half goals to win third straight

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three after defeating Howard Payne 3-2 Thursday at Citizen National Bank Field.

Kaycee Moore, Alicia Pineda and Pamela Lasprilla all scored in the first half to help CTX move to 5-5, 4-2 in the American Southwest Conference. With the win, the Tornados remain in fourth place in the ASC.

The scoring started early on for Concordia when Moore hit a shot into the corner of the goal in the ninth minute off an assist from Cayla Gonzalez. Moore, a junior from Azle, Texas, scored for the fourth time this season and gave CTX a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Just five minutes later, the Tornados got on the board again when Pineda scored off a corner kick by Emily Newton. Pineda, a junior from Austin, Texas, found the back of the net for the first time in her career thanks to Newton's team-high fifth assist of the year.

Lasprilla added a third goal in the half for CTX with 19 seconds left to play before the break. The junior out of Kyle, Texas, netted the goal after a pass from Alyssah Lugo to make the score 3-0.

The Yellow Jackets did not go away quietly as they cut the lead to two just two minutes after halftime and added another in the 70th minute to make the score 3-2.

Shelby Franco and the CTX defense stiffened, however, as they allowed just two more shots the rest of the way to grab the victory. Franco, a junior from Hurst, Texas, ended the game with five saves and moved to 5-5 in goal this season.

The Tornados will look to extend their winning streak to four when they travel to Richardson, Texas, to take on UT Dallas at 5:00 p.m.
