Dunkerley secures first career double-double in loss against Southwestern

SEGUIN, Texas – Kaycie Dunkerley put up 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for her first career double-double for the Concordia Texas women's basketball team in a 68-52 loss against Southwestern Saturday night at Memorial Gymnasium in game one of the TLU Classic.

Dunkerley, a junior from Azle, Texas, also set a new career-high in boards with 11 as the Tornados fell to 1-3 on the season.

The game was a back-and-forth affair throughout the majority of the first half, with neither team leading by more than five points. Dunkerley led the way in the half, going 4-for-7 from 3-point-range to finish the first stanza with 12 points.

Coming out of the break, Southwestern opened the second half with a 9-2 run to take a 42-33 lead. After the Tornados cut the deficit back down to just four, the Pirates closed the third quarter on an 11-0 run and never looked back.

Payton Berger and Lindsay Carter both had solid days for CTX, producing seven points each. Berger, a junior out of Azle, Texas, also grabbed nine rebounds while Carter, a sophomore from Dodd City, Texas, added four boards.

As a team, the Tornados shot just 25.4 percent from the floor while holding Southwestern to 29.9 percent.

Next up, CTX will close out the TLU Classic with a game against the tournament host, Texas Lutheran, Sunday at 3:00 p.m. inside Memorial Gymnasium.
