Tornados open ASC play with 73-60 win over LeTourneau

AUSTIN, Texas – Kaycie Dunkerley had a season-high 28 points to help the Concordia Texas women's basketball team begin American Southwest Conference play with a 73-60 win over LeTourneau Thursday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.

Dunkerley, a junior from Azle, Texas, nailed four 3-pointers and went 12-for-13 from the free throw line as the Tornados moved to 2-4, 1-0 in the ASC.

The two teams went back and forth in the first quarter, with neither team leading by more than six points.

Halfway through the second half, CTX began to pull away with an 11-3 run to take a 37-28 lead capped off by a 3-pointer from Kaylie Houston.

The Tornados led for the entirety of the second half as well, holding at least a five-point cushion in the third and fourth quarters. CTX grabbed their largest lead of the game in the fourth when Keturah Taylor drilled a 3-pointer to put the Tornados up 62-45.

Taylor and Dunkerley, along with Allie Garza, all scored in double figures in the win for CTX. Garza, a freshman out of Houston, had the best game of her young career, recording a season-best 13 points to go along with four assists and a game-high five steals.

Defensively, the Tornados were phenomenal throughout, holding LeTourneau to just 35.1 percent from the floor and 13.6 percent from 3-point-range.

ASC play continues for CTX on Saturday when they take on ETBU at 1:00 inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
