AUSTIN, Texas –
Kaycie Dunkerley produced 22 points while KT Taylor add 17 points to lead the Concordia Texas women's basketball team as they dropped a 54-51 contest against UT Tyler Saturday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
Dunkerley, a junior from Azle, Texas, scored 11 points in the fourth quarter alone, but it was not enough as CTX fell to 3-7 on the year.
The Tornados controlled the ball throughout the first half, holding the Patriots to just 23.3 percent from the floor in the stanza.
Leading 12-8, CTX was able to extend its lead to as many as 13 in the half thanks to a 9-0 run and went into the break with a 26-15 advantage.
UT Tyler was able to get back into the game by starting the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 37. The Tornados responded; however, with a 9-2 fueled by back-to-back 3-pointers from Dunkerley to take a 49-40 lead with 2:41 left to play.
The Patriots heated up from beyond the arc down the stretch, nailing three 3-pointers in the final 0:27 of regulation to grab the three-point victory.
Taylor, a junior from Copperas Cove, Texas, went 5-for-10 from downtown while also grabbing six boards in the win.
Payton Berger and
Alyssa Marquez were fantastic on the boards for CTX, grabbing nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
The Tornados will return to action for an American Southwest Conference matchup against Ozarks on Monday at 1:00 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
