AUSTIN, Texas – Four Tornados scored in double figures and the Concordia Texas men's basketball team would run away with the game late as they took down Ozarks 97-77 on Monday.
Concordia Texas would trail by as much as 11 in first half before taking an eight-point lead into the locker room at the halfway point.
In the second half, the Eagles would climb back into the game, tying it up at 64-all after Javian Williams' 3-pointer with nine minutes to play.
The Tornados responded sharply with a 16-0 run, capped off by
Ronnie Hamilton's jumper in the lane. After an Ozarks free-throw,
Spencer Bone and
Joe Neal would each hit a pair of free throws; followed by a
Philip Meikle 3-pointer and CTX would never look back, winning it 97-77.
Concordia Texas would shoot nearly 50 percent from the field, led by Neal, who went 8-for-15 from the field, finishing with a game-high 23 points.
Philip Meikle, meanwhile, continued his scoring streak, reaching double figures for the fifth time in his last six games, tallying a career-high 22 points on 13 shots, including knocking down three 3-pointers.
In the first half, CTX would fall behind early as the Eagles opened the game on 13-4 run and would push it to an 11-point lead, their largest lead of the game, after a Williams 3-pointer.
The Tornados would slowly climb back into the game and take their first lead of the day after a Neal jumper in the paint made it 25-24 with under six to play in the half.
Concordia Texas would extend their lead late in the first after knocking down three of their 10 treys in the final three minutes and led 41-33 heading into the locker room.
Bone went 4-for-7 from behind the arc, finishing with a career-high 15 points off the bench, while
DeTarrius Kirk had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with his eight points as Tornados moved to 2-2 in conference play.
Up next, CTX will have a holiday break before returning to Concordia Fieldhouse on Dec. 29 when they will host Wisconsin-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
