RICHARDSON, Texas –
Kaycie Dunkerley grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and knocked down four 3-pointers as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team rolled past Manchester 61-53 on Saturday to close out the Courtyard Classic.
It is the third double-double of the season for Dunkerley, securing nine of her 12 rebounds on the defensive end, while shooting 40 percent from behind the arc.
In the first quarter, the Tornados would face an early 4-3 deficit, but would close out the quarter on a 14-6 run thanks in part to
Leigh Westbrook's five points. She would finish with a season-high 10 points for the game.
In the second, CTX would continue to hold on to their lead, outscoring the Spartans 12-11 and headed into the locker room up 29-21.
In the third, Manchester would open the quarter on a 9-3 and cut the Tornados' lead to two. It was as close as the Spartans would get as CTX scored 20 points in the quarter, including eight from Dunkerley, and headed into the final frame, leading 49-38.
Manchester would begin the quarter with a 7-0 run, but
Payton Berger, who finished with 10 points, would produce a quick five points on a layup and a 3-pointer and the Tornados would hold off the Spartans, winning it 61-53.
It is the second straight win for CTX after their win over Berry College on Friday. Up next, the Tornados will return to conference play when they will travel to Pineville, La., to take on Louisiana College at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 3.
